Research shows looked-after children consistently do less well thantheir peers when it comes to educational achievement. FosteringAchievement is a scheme in Northern Ireland that aims to reduce thatgap.

It offers a range of help, advice and training to enable foster parentsto encourage and support the children and young people they carefor.

While fostering allowances cover basic costs, they don't stretchfar.

So families can apply through the project for more than 800 worthof credits to fund things like a computer, internet access, musicalinstruments, sports equipment and educational books and toys. Thecredits can also pay for coaching or extra lessons for a child inacademic subjects or activities like music, sport and learning todrive.
