What it is: A project to work with parents to develop speech and language skills in children under five.

Funding: Funded until March 2006 by eb4U (East Brighton For You), theregeneration agency working to improve communities in east Brighton

Children who start school without basic speech and language skills areplaced at an immediate disadvantage and may struggle to catch up withtheir peers. Historically this has been an issue in east Brighton,prompting the establishment of the Talking and Learning TogetherProject. The project aims to identify potential problems early and'since its launch four years ago, the number of children starting schoolwith language skills appropriate to their age has nearly doubled.
