NCB Now: News from Wales - The cost of education

Low-income families in Wales are struggling to meet increasing "hidden" costs of sending their children to school, according to a briefing released by the End Child Poverty Network Cymru, a coalition of children's and advice charities and professionals, to mark UN Eradication of Poverty Day.

As parents are increasingly being called upon to pay more money forschool uniforms, trips, activities, transition events, meals andclassroom materials, school has the potential to exclude and stigmatisechildren, especially those in low-income families. These additionalcosts of schooling are also exposing an increasing number of childrenand families to financial hardship.
