Daarek Sach, pictured, is 15. For more than 10 years he's enjoyed beingpart of Northamptonshire's Family Link Scheme, which provides around 115disabled children each year with short breaks from their families.
Not all councils offer such a service but it avoids the need for moreexpensive crisis intervention, says Alan Johnstone, a social worker forthe scheme. "A day a month might not seem that significant but familiestell us it's enough to keep them together."
