In Practice: Up & running - Whalley centre to open

A children's centre is to be set up in Whalley Library as part of the Lancashire children's centre programme. It will offer services that could include classes for dads and breastfeeding support by March 2010.

Rushden Community College in East Northamptonshire is looking forward to the completion of a new children's centre in the school grounds in December. The centre will be the biggest in the district and will provide support to other centres.

A new children's centre has opened in Golden Valley in Herefordshire. The Kingstone and Golden Valley Children's Centre is based at Kingstone High School and will also run services from community halls and church buildings.

Young people are taking charge of an after-school club for 11- to 16-year-olds in Staffordshire. They are now making all the decisions at the club run by charity Bentilee Volunteers.
