In Practice: Up & running - Richmond go-ahead

Plans for a new children's centre in Richmond-upon-Thames have been agreed.

The centre, which will be based at a health clinic, will be run jointly by Richmond Council, NHS Richmond and local voluntary organisations. It will act as a second focal point in the area for children with disabilities.

Former England rugby player Austin Healey cut the ribbon at the official opening of Fairmead Children's Centre in Melton, Leicestershire.

A housing provider has helped get a new after-school and breakfast club off the ground. Russet Homes funded a kitchen, TV and DVD player at St Peter's Primary School in Aylesford, Kent.

A time capsule was buried to mark the start of building work on a new £1m children's centre at Layfield Primary School in Stockton-on-Tees.
