In Practice: Up & running - Somerset centre opens

The Levels Children's Centre in Langport, Somerset, launched on 20 September with activities such as messy play and badge-making. The centre will offer a range of services and is set to launch full daycare from next spring.

Barnstaple's second children's centre opened its doors last month. The centre, which shares a site with Sticklepath Primary School, is being managed for Devon County Council by Action for Children (formerly NCH).

Stubblee Hill Children's Centre in Lee-on-the-Solent, Hampshire, celebrated its official opening last month with a launch event that included African drumming and smoothie-making.

Families enjoyed a day at Knaresborough Children's Centre, where they had a chance to try out its new sensory room. The facility is one in a series being developed by North Yorkshire County Council.

A West Yorkshire after-school club that promotes healthy eating has received a £750 award from The Co-operative Group. Sparks caters for children aged seven to 12 and is run by Hemsworth and District Community Initiative.
