Children enjoyed badge-making, face painting and petting a Shetland pony at an open day to publicise services on offer at Chulmleigh Children's Centre in Devon, which opened in April.

There was a party atmosphere at the official opening of Morley South Children's Centre in West Yorkshire last month. The centre is based at Seven Hills Primary School. Children's Secretary Ed Balls was among those who attended the launch.

Filey Children's Centre in North Yorkshire is launching a weekly pop-in session for parents with young children at a health clinic in Hunmanby. The Coffee Mates group will feature advice on topics such as child development and early reading.

Birmingham saw the launch of its 67th children's centre last month when Pype Hayes Children's Centre in Erdington opened its doors. Eight more centres are due to open this year.
