Eleven young people from Birmingham will embark on a trip-of-a-lifetime this month when they jet off to New York.
The pupils from Colmers School and Sports College will teach games such as football, netball and cricket to young people in a disadvantaged part of the US city. The venture, backed by Birmingham City Council, was devised by the Frankley and Longbridge Extended Schools Cluster.
It was designed to offer a great opportunity to young people from the Longbridge area of Birmingham, which was hit by the closure of the MG Rover car plant in 2005. The children and schools will not pay anything for the £40,000 trip thanks to sponsorship from UK and US organisations.
