Children and young people are often under stress, whether it's exam pressure or family problems.

One Welsh scheme is taking an innovative three-strand approach to supporting them, working with pupils in five Llanelli secondary schools.

Moving On is run by Carmarthenshire Youth and Children's Association (CYCA), a voluntary organisation, and funded through a £245,000 grant from the Lottery.

It offers three types of support to Key Stage 3 pupils: one-to-one counselling; holistic therapies such as aromatherapy, reflexology and meditation; and yoga sessions. Pupils can refer themselves or are referred by school staff and other professionals, including GPs. Since the scheme launched in March 2007, 78 young people have had counselling, including 12 at risk of self-harm and suicide. CYCA manager Tracy Pike says she has seen a huge impact on children's confidence, self-esteem, behaviour and schoolwork.
