Goal: To enable dads and children to spend quality time together

The Dads 'n' Kids group at Willington Children's Centre is not just for dads - granddads are welcome too. It has been going for about four years and has proved a big hit.
Up to 12 dads and granddads and 15 children attend the Saturday morning sessions, which kick off with half an hour's free play before breakfast.
Then it's time for a fun activity such as making boats and sailing them, a trip to the park or kite flying. The sessions not only help dads and children bond, they also give partners time to themselves, explains Nigel Connah, Durham Dales dads development co-ordinator. "They can have a lie in, go shopping or do whatever they want for a couple of hours," he says.
