It's never too early for mums-to-be to start bonding with their babies. That's the philosophy embraced by Sure Start Children's Centre inBriercliffe, Scarborough.

For several years the centre has run sessions to help mothers bond withtheir unborn children and prepare for when the baby arrives.

That might include listening to soothing, calming music or introducingfathers and siblings to their "bumps".

"Even before they are born, babies can hear from 22 weeks old and canstart recognising mum's voice and differentiate it from others," saysDorothy Baird, speech and language co-ordinator.

"We want to help mums to recognise that, and to talk and play music totheir 'bumps' to begin bonding and attachment as early as possible."
