"She's crazy about her daddy," chanted Boney M in their seminal 1976 disco anthem, Daddy Cool. Almost 30 years later, a project in Southampton is creating a similar bond, with somewhat different connotations, for children in the south-coast city.
The Daddy Cool project, which is run by Sure Start Millbrook, Redbridge and Maybush, was born out of consultations with fathers who wanted services more tailored to their needs.
It started last year with one-off events, such as a fathers' day trip for families and football viewings during the Euro 2004 tournament, then developed a regular Saturday morning breakfast club for the dads and their children.
