Learning and Skills Councils (LSCs) can be a valuable source of fundingfor children's centres. The key to tapping into that is showing how yourobjectives match up, says Jo Fenton, finance director at DerwentStepping Stones.
The children's centre, which has grown up around a voluntary childcareorganisation, has three cofinancing agreements with Derbyshire Learningand Skills Council. Through these, the centre is able to offer adultlearning courses including numeracy and literacy skills and creativeactivities that build confidence. Students get free childcare at thecentre and the LSC also part-funds the centre's full-time supportworkers, who provide extra help.
