Two specially adapted buses took to the road in Surrey in May to take children's centres to families in rural areas.
The initiative is part of the county council's efforts to ensure all families benefit from children's centre services, says Phil Osborne, head of early years and childcare for Surrey County Council. The buses can host small sessions and include space for private consultations.
The buses cover 16 children's centre areas, mostly in south-west and south-east Surrey, and also stop off at local events.
They are staffed by local children's centre workers, who may be joined by a health visitor, midwife or a careers and training adviser.
