Once schools have become extended schools, it's important to keep them engaged in the initiative to ensure the long-term development and sustainability of extended services. One of the most important ways in which local authorities can help to sustain extended schools is to ensure that the principles of the initiative are embedded with the whole school, this means that if one person moves on, services should not be affected.
Similarly, encouraging schools that offer extended services to mentor new schools through the process can also help.
