In Practice: Ask the experts

1 min read
I want to make sure that children at my school are able to help shape the development of extended services but want to know how can I get them interested?

It is vital that children are consulted on the development of new services, or they may simply vote with their feet and not attend activities set up to benefit them. In carrying out consultation try to get them to think creatively about what they might want to do, why they want it and what positive impacts on their lives it will have. You will need to make it more fun than simply a tick box questionnaire and might want to think about getting them to draw, write or create a collage with their ideas to help keep them engaged. Once you've had these make sure you feed back how their input made a difference, even if you can't carry out all their ideas at once.
