How can we ensure effective youth participation in the planning and delivery of a study support programme?

The most successful study support programmes are those where youngpeople are actively engaged in the planning and delivery. Thepersonalised learning agenda can be delivered, in part, by a needs-ledstudy support programme and if the young people can choose theiractivities, then they are likely to be well attended and successful.

Participation in planning can take the form of questionnaires, formaland informal interviews or meetings, discussions and decisions taken atschool councils and circle time meetings.

Monitoring and evaluation of any study support programme should includethe views of young people who are involved.

To engage young people, and in particular those who are considered "hardto reach", involve learning mentors and youth workers, who often havepositive and open relationships with young people.
