There is a lot of demand for childcare, but parents can't afford to paythe fees unless they are working. In some areas, parents need help todevelop the confidence, skills and qualifications to get the jobsavailable.
Working in partnership with Jobcentre Plus and organisations likeWorking Links can help parents to access work and to pay for childcare, but it takes time. Centres that offer parents help with finding trainingand work are finding that childcare occupancy and sustainability isslowly rising.
Some local authorities are using children's centre revenue andneighbourhood renewal funding to bridge the funding gap. For centres inother areas, supporting parents to access the childcare element ofworking tax credit, student funding, and employer childcare vouchers(saving each parent up to 1,000 a year in tax and nationalinsurance contributions) can all help.
