Percentage of 19-year-old care leavers in education, training and employment

The London Borough of Bexley has experienced something of a turnaround in terms of its outcomes for care leavers in recent years.

In 2007, only half of all care leavers in Bexley were in education, training or employment at the age of 19, but the latest statistics show that this now applies to more than 80 per cent of care leavers.

Jackie Larkin, service manager of leaving care at Bexley, says the council is working to identify looked-after children not in employment, education or training (Neet) at an earlier stage. They are then encouraged to attend a weekly drop-in support service, which is linked to Connexions and is also open to care leavers.
