1 min read Social Care
Almost all those leaving care in Gloucestershire at the age of 19 were placed in suitable accommodation in 2008, a dramatic improvement on figures from just three to four years before.

Council: Gloucestershire County Council

Performance: The percentage of former care leavers aged 19 who were in suitable accommodation

2004 England 79.6% Gloucestershire 68.1%

2005 England 83.9% Gloucestershire 70.7%

2006 England 87.9% Gloucestershire 92.5%

2007 England 87.3% Gloucestershire 92%

2008 England 88.4% Gloucestershire 95.1%

Almost all those leaving care in Gloucestershire at the age of 19 were placed in suitable accommodation in 2008, a dramatic improvement on figures from just three to four years before. In 2004 and 2005 only around two-thirds of care leavers were in suitable housing.

Jo Moore, the council's leaving care services manager, says the turnaround can be put down largely to structural changes and a greater emphasis on staff training.
