Performance: Child protection cases that were reviewed within required timescales

Cumbria County Council has achieved a massive improvement in the number of child protection cases that are reviewed within the set timescales of three and six months.

Helen Smith, head of children and family care at Cumbria County Council, says that previous efforts were not good enough when vulnerable children's safety was at risk, and that the council made a concerted effort to raise its game.

"It's so important to protect our most vulnerable children," she says. "Alongside that, it's so important to review care and protection plans to make sure things are progressing well."
