How we are improving ... Care leaver outcomes in Hammersmith and Fulham

1 min read Social Care
Hammersmith and Fulham is one of the highest achieving councils when it comes to care leavers in education, employment or training.

Council: Hammersmith and Fulham

Performance: The percentage of former care leavers aged 19 who were in education, employment or training in the year ending 31 March

2005 Hammersmith and Fulham 49% England average 59.1%

2006 Hammersmith and Fulham 59.6% England average 63.4%

2007 Hammersmith and Fulham 72.7% England average 63%

2008 Hammersmith and Fulham 81% England average 64.9%

With 81 per cent of care leavers aged 19 in Hammersmith and Fulham engaged in education, employment or training, the authority is among the highest achieving councils in England.

But in 2005 the figures were not so impressive, with the authority falling 10 per cent behind the national average.

Councillor Antony Lillis, the council's cabinet member for community and children's services, attributes the improvement to the work of the leaving care team, who he says: "Encourage young people to take advantage of the opportunities that are available to them in the borough."
