Housing: Foyer speaks out over new strategy

The Government published its strategy for Supporting People last week. This outlines how local authorities should embed the initiative within their local area agreement priorities.

Sophie Livingstone, head of policy and communications at Foyer, said: "We welcome the strategy. We are, however, nervous of the implications of local area agreements and the lifting of ringfencing."

The Supporting People funding programme was first launched in 2003 to help vulnerable people live independently. The 2007 strategy, launched by Communities and Local Government, focuses on four themes: focusing on people in need; enhancing partnerships with the voluntary sector; enhanced delivery via local government, and reducing bureaucracy.
