Health News: Young Carers: Scotland plans for early support task

Every health board in Scotland will have to produce a carer's information strategy that will identify and support additional young carers.

As part of the initiative, young carers will have to be recognised as a distinct group under guidance put out to consultation by the Scottish Executive.

Jan Wells, service manager for five centres run by the Princess Royal Trust for Carers, welcomed the guidance. However, she warned that there had been no sign as yet of any extra funding being allocated to cater for the additional young carers that would be identified.
