Dedicated worker for young carers

Social Care
Young carers in Windsor and Maidenhead are to get a dedicated worker to co-ordinate support.

Latest figures show there are 331 young carers in the borough but the true figure is likely to be far higher since those caring for parents with substance abuse or mental health problems are rarely identified.

Now the local authority has joined forces with the local Princess Royal Trust for Carers service and other voluntary organisations to fund a young carers development co-ordinator for the borough.

Karen Mustard, project manager at the Princess Royal Trust for Carers, said: "We also want to bring in a young carers' charter for schools and other services."
