Young carers: DfES cash handed out for training

Professionals working with young carers are set to get extra training after The Children's Society received 600,000 from the Government.

The charity's National Young Carers Initiative has received the fundingfrom the Department for Education and Skills to provide a three-yeartraining programme to create better services for young carers.

The Princess Royal Trust for Carers will help deliver the training,which will be based on Every Child Matters and the Whole Family Working- Key Principles of Practice guidance due to be published by TheChildren's Society next month.

Jenny Frank, The Children's Society's programme manager, said: "The keyaim of the funding is to roll out training across England and to deliverit to frontline practitioners in social care, health agencies, educationand the statutory sector. Alongside that we will also be deliveringtraining and information to the voluntary sector."
