Health News: Sexual health - Teens slam schools' sex education

More than half of teenagers say they don't get adequate sex education at school.

A survey of 20,000 young people by the UK Youth Parliament unveiled lastweek, revealed the extent of the gaps in sex and relationshipseducation.

It found four out of 10 young people rated their sex education as pooror very poor and 55 per cent of 12- to 15-year-olds said they had notbeen taught how to use a condom. In addition, more than half of theyoung people said they did not know where to find their local sexualhealth clinic.

Responding to the findings, schools minister Jim Knight said: "Schoolsshould teach about the risks of unprotected sex and direct young peopleto local services. In that respect, these findings are disappointing.Nevertheless, our Teenage Pregnancy Strategy is working."
