29% of five-year-olds have dental decay (2001/02) (35 per cent in England & Wales)

- 7.1% of births less than 2500g (1999-2001) (7.9 per cent in England & Wales)

- 4% infant deaths per 1,000 live births (1998-2000) (5.6 per cent in England & Wales)

- 34.2% conceptions per 1,000 15- to 17-year-olds (2000/01) (43.1 per cent in England & Wales)

The Teenage Pregnancy Co-ordinator for Somerset is based in the shared Somerset specialist health promotion service. Partnership working has been developed with the other three PCTs in Somerset, the county council and Somerset social services. Basic sexual health training has been completed in all residential units for looked-after children and young people, and a Somerset support network for male workers working with boys and young men has been developed.
