7.9 deaths in infants under one year per 1,000 live births in 1999-2001 (5.6 in England and Wales)

9.6% of births under 2,500 grams in 2001 (7.9 per cent in England and Wales)

15.1 conceptions per 1,000 girls aged 13 to 15 in 1998-2000 (8.5 in England and Wales)

4.32 deaths from accidents in children under 14 per 100,000 people in 1998-2001 (3.4 in England and Wales)

City and Hackney Primary Care Trust's director of health improvement and public health, David Sloan, says: "We have been doing research with City University, PCTs and acute trusts to find the risk factors and interventions for infant mortality. We also have a teenage pregnancy programme that involves schools, social services, youth services and primary care."
