51% of five-year-olds have tooth decay (52.9 in Wales)

Numbers of congenital deformities have risen in Wales because of an improvement in reporting on a new register. Before that Dyfed Powys was thought to have more robust systems than other parts of Wales.

The small numbers of Down's Syndrome mean a difference of one could lead to a big percentage shift. The dental health picture has been reversed, with new policies reducing inequality. In 1999, 54.8 per cent of five-year-olds in Dyfed Powys had tooth decay (51.6 per cent in Wales).
