- 6.9% of live births weighed less than 2,500 grams in 2004 (7.6 percent in England)

- 6.8 infant deaths under one week per 1,000 women in 2005 (5 inEngland)

The conception rate in the authority has dropped by more than a quartersince figures were first collected for the teenage pregnancy strategy in1998, falling by 28.8 per cent. The drop represents 20 fewer girlsconceiving. In 1998, 118 girls became pregnant.
