Hackney Youth Print Project is an arts-based rehabilitation programme for young offenders.

Funding: £30,000 from Team Hackney Constructive Activities for Young People Fund

Aim: To give skills to young people who have offended

Hackney Youth Print Project is an arts-based rehabilitation programme for young offenders run by the Free Form Arts Trust. The project aims to train participants in screen-printing up to commercial standard.

According to project manager Joel Parkes, participants are encouraged to develop their own designs from concept through to final prints, a process he says boosts confidence.

"It's a good way of getting them out of thinking directly about their situation and instilling a sense of purpose and direction," explains Parkes. "Going through the design process brings out their innate creativity and gives them confidence that their ideas are worthwhile."
