Project: The Arts Group
Funding: £14,300 from Awards for All and the Local Network Fund
Aim: To give young offenders meaningful work and to boost their confidence.
Young people in Calderdale, west Yorkshire, who have offended or are at risk of offending are getting involved in the arts as a way of making it up to the community.
The Arts Group was formed in 2006, when a group of volunteers working with Calderdale Youth Offending Team (YOT) looked at ways of reaching young people who have offended. They came up with The Arts Group to give them meaningful reparation work. The programme has run two projects since it was set up, with 30 young people aged between 12 and 17 getting involved.
