Project: Hackney Resettlement and Aftercare Provision (Rap) music programme.
Funding: About £10,000 from Hackney Resettlement and Aftercare Provision
Aim: To help young offenders build confidence and skills for employment
The Hackney Resettlement and Aftercare Provision (Rap) is a collaborative programme run by Hackney's Youth Offending Team (YOT) and education charity Rising Tide.
Its music programme aims to rehabilitate young people who have offended and uses music as a medium to address issues such as personal development, emotional intelligence, team-building and a shared sense of pride. The young people involved in the project were referred by the YOT.
On the programme, young people are given advice about the music business from youth music peer mentor Gregory Sewell (also known as Spooky DJ), who has a similar background to the young people on the scheme.
