YOUNG MUMS' PEER EDUCATION PROJECT

Aim To provide better information, advice and guidance to young people about sex and relationships

Funding £13,000 from the youth opportunity fund

Young mothers are helping to educate young people about sex and relationships as part of an innovative project in Hertfordshire. The scheme was devised by Youth Connexions Hertfordshire to help tackle high teenage pregnancy rates in the Broxbourne area.

Youth development worker Sarah Parkhouse led the project, which began last summer and centred on a group of young mums who meet at Waltham Cross Youth Centre. The girls, aged 15 to 21, were keen to smash some of the negative stereotypes of young parents and improve sex education in schools.
