GOVERNMENT: Home Office unable to expand on status of youth minister

Goggins was promoted to the prison and probation role earlier this month when Benn moved to the Department for International Development (YPN, 21-27 May, p4). According to the Home Office, the decision as to whether Goggins would also take on the youth element was "in the Prime Minister's hands".

Bernard Lane, head of youth crime reduction at the Home Office, said: "The role is due to be clarified imminently. There is due to be an expansion of Home Office ministerial positions so there may be more shuffling of roles in that." The Home Office refused to comment on the "expansion" or the timescale for making a decision.
