Denham had worked as youth minister in a cross-governmental role for the Children & Young People's Unit in his capacity as Home Office minister, and also held responsibilities for the police and cutting crime.
His duties have now been shared across a number of MPs, with the youth work element being passed across to Benn, MP for Leeds Central.
The Children and Young People's Unit regards Benn as its new temporary youth minister who is going to be responsible for the ministerial overview of this unit, but there is a chance that he will be made permanent. The unit says it is early days to assess the impact the resignation will have on the unit.
