Sustainable transport charity Sustrans has learned it will get 250,000 more funding from the cycle industry after the success of a pilot project in four areas of England.
Bike It officers have worked with nearly 40 schools in the cities of Derby, York, Manchester and Bristol, and surrounding areas, since the project launched last summer.
They run activities in schools such as lessons on cycle safety and maintenance, set up clubs, organise training for instructors, and co-ordinate Bike to School weeks.
Sustrans estimates an extra 2,500 children and their parents have taken up cycling as a result of the initiative, funded by the cycle industry's Bike Hub levy and supported by the Department for Transport.
