Funding watch: Who's getting money and who's giving it - Kinshipcare project gets 300,000 boost

1 min read
A project to help more children stay with relatives rather than being taken into care has been awarded 300,000.

The Adolescent and Children's Trust (Tact) is working with theGrandparents' Association to set up the Kinship Care project. The cashis a loan from the Futurebuilders investment fund, which supportsvoluntary organisations to run public services. The project willinitially run in one area with the aim of establishing up to 20placements in its first year.

But the hope is it will develop into a service for all councils inEngland, said Tact's chief executive Kevin Williams. "Research showschildren who stay within their own families tend to do better," he said."There is a shortage of foster carers and using kinship care also freesup resources for foster children."
