Funding watch: Who's getting money and who's giving it - Londonprojects gain lottery fund grants

An innovative daycare project has been awarded more than 280,000 to develop its services for children and families living in the centre of London.

The Soho Family Centre secured the grant from the Big Lottery Fund'sReaching Communities Programme.

The centre already offers childcare and other activities to localfamilies.

Its services include a project for childminders, providing playequipment and activities for the children in their care while offeringtraining.

The funding will allow the centre to employ a childcare co-ordinator andassistant for the next five years to provide more activities.

A Newham-based project to guide and mentor children and teenagers atrisk of getting into trouble at home and school has also gained lotteryfunding. The Newham Community Renewal Programme's StepUp service wasawarded more than 437,000. It will provide a range of servicesfor 12- to 22-year-olds including advocacy, peer mentoring, familymediation and emergency accommodation.
