Funding Watch: Who's getting money and who's giving it - Lottery fund responds to stakeholders' calls

1 min read
The Big Lottery Fund has promised at least a third of its income will be distributed through new light-touch, demand-led programmes in response to calls from stakeholders.

The move is part of a bid to introduce more flexibility into the way cash is distributed, one of the key concerns of more than 2,900 groups and individuals that responded to the first phase of a UK-wide consultation.

A need for greater focus on promoting sustainability and longer grants were also issues highlighted in responses to the major review of the way the fund is run. The fund restated a commitment to concentrating on supporting community and voluntary projects, with 60 to 70 per cent of all funding destined for the sector.

It also confirmed it would adopt the principle of full cost recovery, which means all legitimate overhead costs of a scheme should be factored into bids by voluntary and community groups.
