Funding watch: Who's getting money and who's giving it - Children'schampion finalists

Four innovative children's projects are in the running for the children's champion section of this year's National Lottery Awards. The public will vote on which of the Lottery-funded projects should get the award.

Post Pals, a project set up by five young girls from Surrey that sendsletters, gifts and cards to seriously ill children, is one of theprojects in the running for the award. Jon Read, whose nine-year-old sonJames received support from Post Pals, said: "Such a simple idea haspaid dividends in contributing to James's recovery. The National Lotteryfunding to Post Pals has made a world of difference to so many youngpeople."

Midnight Street Soccer, a north Belfast group that brings young peopletogether to play football in order to keep them out of trouble, is alsoa finalist.

The other finalists are Sunbeams Music, a Cumbrian charity that runstherapeutic music workshops for children with a range of mental andphysical conditions, and Ucan Productions, a Welsh project set up byformer Hollyoaks actor Bernard Latham that gives partially sightedchildren the chance to get involved in art.
