Funding Watch: Who's getting money and who's giving it - Cash injection for hospice wing

1 min read
A children's hospice in the Wirral is celebrating a 300,000 lottery grant towards a new 2m wing specifically designed for teenagers.

Claire House, which serves children and young people with life-threatening illnesses from Cheshire, Merseyside, North Wales and the Isle of Man, is one of many organisations to benefit from more than 17m in regional lottery grants announced today (6 October).

The hospice has raised more than 1m since launching a fundraising appeal in June 2003 and now hopes to go ahead with plans to build a new wing for 12- to 18-year-olds in the New Year.

Project manager Stephen Trowler said innovations in medical and palliative care for children meant patients were living longer and there were more teenagers and young adults in need of hospice services.
