Children 1st will get 158,000 from the Big Lottery Fund to look at the role of young fathers in families, social networks, and the workforce.
Assistant director Jan McClory said the research would help charities develop better support for young dads.
Bayc (Birmingham Association of Youth Clubs), working with the Community, Youth and Play department of Birmingham University, will get 178,000 to test how getting young people to carry out research can help them be involved in decision-making in local communities.
The Anna Freud Centre was awarded 173,000 for a joint project with Coram Family to research ways of improving the lives of adopted children.
