About 20,000 people voted after GMTV showcased three short-listed charities last week. Fifty-seven per cent chose Groundwork, whose Safe and Sound project aims to transform public areas from Brixton to Belfast.
Groundwork said it would involve different generations to improve the appearance of communities and the relationship between old and young people.
People of all ages will design memorial gardens and build skateparks.
Graham Duxbury, head of policy at Groundwork, said: "The most effective solutions to antisocial behaviour and to achieving the respect agenda occur when you bring young people alongside adults to encourage them to see each other in a new light." Groundwork, a federation of local environmental trusts, will spend between 20,000 and 70,000 on each of the 25 projects.
