The money has been granted from the Home Office, the European Regional Development Fund, the North West Development Agency's Regeneration Fund and Connexions. It will help Groundwork Wigan and Chorley manage youth development programmes, including The Prince's Trust Team project, Youth Works and Springboard.
The money has funded the creation of three posts at the organisation. Louise Clappison, a former Connexions personal adviser from Hull, has joined Groundwork Wigan and Chorley to mentor young people up to 12 months after they either finish or drop out of the youth schemes.
Maggie McIntyre becomes an employment link adviser, improving access to employment for young people, while Mathilde Vautier, a diversity network co-ordinator, will address the needs of minority ethnic groups, refugees and asylum seekers.
