Appealing to breakfast TV viewers may be an unusual way to raise funds, but 25 UK projects that will involve young people are benefiting from just such an approach.
In April, GMTV viewers voted for environmental charity Groundwork UK to receive 1.5m from the Big Lottery Fund through the People's Millions scheme.
Will Roncon, special projects producer at GMTV, explains: "Tens of thousands of our viewers voted to award the money to Groundwork UK. Through its Safe and Sound initiative, the charity will benefit 25 different sites from Northern Ireland to Newquay, and we believe this is what touched many of our viewers."
