A survey by The Wrigley Company asked 500 young people aged 11 to 16 about their views on the environment

As young people grow older they are less likely to feel they have an important role to play in improving the cleanliness of their local areas.

The Wrigley Company surveyed 500 11- to 16-year-olds about their views on their local environment and found that while 93 per cent of 12-year-olds felt that they had an important role to play in their local area, only 77 per cent of 16-year-olds felt the same.

Regional variances also occur, with young people from Wales and the Southwest displaying the most encouraging attitude.
