Fewer are as conscientious about alcohol - nearly a third say they avoid drink - but a quarter of 16- to 25-year-olds say they avoid sex outside marriage. When it comes to education, more than two-thirds want their school or college to reduce energy use and combat climate change. Young people are also keen to support charities, with two-thirds claiming to have made a donation in the last three months. One in seven claim to have regular involvement with a charity.

Joe Saxton, nfpSynergy's Driver of Ideas, says charities and the Government should find these results encouraging. "Young people are starting to have an ideological keenness to get involved in the world around them," he says. "Thanks to media coverage, they are becoming more aware of climate and health issues and we must encourage them to be involved."
